  1. This was a great show! Games are on my mind and I like listening to game podcasts but I’m not much of an active participant in gaming culture. I’m trying to come up with a name for when you don’t participate in something but still like to hear other people talk about it. I think there’s a lot of podcast listeners that are like that because I’ll be listening to podcasts where the hosts say they get feedback from listeners who have no attachment to the subject matter but enjoy hearing the conversation. It’s not really casual fandom, it’s more like vicarious fandom.

Dennis Haksins sure gets around! I googled him and there’s lots of pictures of his band and him with girls. Then the younger stars of Saved By the Bell are all burnt out and going nowhere. It’s like Haskins is the young guy living the post movie star life that I expected Zack and Screech to have.

I totally agree that motion control is being used to artificially lengthen the lifespan of the two next gen systems when what they should be doing is coming out with a new system. It reminds me of Sega back when they’d release peripheral after peripheral for the Genesis. Google for “leaning tower of Sega”. It’s funny.

My wife bought a Wii for when her mom visited back in July but we never opened it! I guess we’re those people who’ve barely bought their first Wii. I don’t even know why we have it. I know it can be used to play retro games but all my retro consoles still work and I can still buy the old games at game stores. I don’t trust that downloads will always stay on these new machines but I don’t worry about my cartridges suddenly disappearing because the hard drive failed or there was a power outage or whatever.

Butt detection is absolutely essential for that YooStar stuff. I wonder if I can make a living developing butt detection software for web 2.0 applications. Hey just wait a year when butt detection becomes the next breakthrough in interactive video game controller technology!

I loved the ice cream truck beginning at around the 29:00 mark and how you guys never acknowledged it!

I still have a half hour to go on the show and I’m also like three episodes behind. I should be caught up today, though I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts.

  2. Esteban, yes, the ice cream truck was funny. I didn’t hear it on my side when we recorded, but Rob’s mic picked it up from outside his house. The funny part is we recorded at like 9:30 PM, and this truck was out there.

  3. dennis haskins is one of the people mentioned from the really early days – it’s great you’ve finally met him. And you’ve not played his ‘hey, hey, hey’ sound clip for a while…
